As the second observance of World Migratory Bird Day 2026, taking place on 10 October, approaches, attention is once again drawn to the importance of migratory birds and the habitats they depend on throughout their long journeys.

Libya forms an important part of the migration routes of many bird species. Its landscapes, coastline, wetlands, and other habitats are used by migratory birds as they travel between their breeding grounds in Europe and their wintering areas in Africa.

On this occasion, the Libyan Society for Birds (LSB) highlights the importance of raising awareness about migratory birds, encouraging their monitoring and the study of their movements, and protecting sites that serve as important stopover and resting areas during migration.

As part of the celebrations, the Libyan Society for Birds is preparing to organize a special workshop to mark World Migratory Bird Day 2026. Further details and the workshop programme will be announced soon.
