Bird Monitoring at Gargaresh Cost as Part of World Migratory Bird Day 2026

As part of the celebrations marking World Migratory Bird Day 2026, the Libyan Society for Birds (LSB) conducted a field visit to Gargaresh Cost in Tripoli on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

The visit aimed to identify and count bird species and contribute to the Global Birding initiative, documenting bird sightings in celebration of World Migratory Bird Day.

The field survey recorded 16 migratory bird species, contributing to our understanding of bird diversity along Libya’s coastline and highlighting the importance of coastal sites for birds, particularly during migration seasons.

This initiative emphasises the value of field monitoring and sharing bird observation data in supporting scientific research and strengthening efforts to protect birds and conserve their natural habitats.

The activity also reflects the theme of World Migratory Bird Day 2026:

Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter.

The Libyan Society for Birds highlights the importance of participation by researchers, birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, and nature enthusiasts in documenting bird sightings. Every observation can contribute to scientific knowledge and support conservation efforts to protect birds and the habitats they depend on.
