Launch of a Campaign to Combat the Illegal Killing of Birds (IKB) in Libya

As part of the celebrations marking World Migratory Bird Day on 10 October 2026, a campaign to combat the illegal killing of birds was officially launched in Libya, aiming to strengthen efforts to protect birds and conserve the country’s biodiversity.

The initiative seeks to raise awareness of the serious consequences of illegal practices, including the killing of wild birds and hunting methods that violate applicable regulations, which threaten biodiversity and ecological balance.

The Libyan Society for Birds (LSB) emphasises the importance of cooperation between civil society organisations, relevant authorities, and individuals committed to nature conservation. The campaign also aims to strengthen public awareness and encourage compliance with legislation designed to protect birds and their natural habitats.

Combating the illegal killing of birds is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated action, improved monitoring and reporting mechanisms, and the promotion of respect for wildlife. These efforts are essential to securing a safer future for birds in Libya.

Together, let’s protect our birds. Say NO to the illegal killing of birds.
