World Migratory Bird Day – October 2026

As part of the celebrations marking World Migratory Bird Day 2026, the Libyan Society for Birds (LSB) held a scientific workshop on Saturday, 10 October 2026, in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, the Libyan Research Authority, and the Ministry of Environment. The event took place at the Chemistry Theatre, Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of migratory birds and their role in maintaining ecological balance, while highlighting the need to protect these birds and conserve the natural habitats they depend on throughout their seasonal migrations. It also sought to strengthen environmental awareness and encourage birdwatching, monitoring, and the documentation of bird sightings, thereby supporting scientific research and biodiversity conservation efforts in Libya.

This event forms part of the Libyan Society for Birds’ ongoing efforts to promote awareness of migratory birds, highlight the challenges and threats they face, and strengthen cooperation among scientific and environmental institutions and the wider community to support their conservation and protect the habitats they visit and rely upon.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the Libyan Society for Birds extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to all participating and cooperating organisations, as well as everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this event. The Society reaffirms the importance of continued joint efforts to protect migratory birds and conserve biodiversity in Libya.
