The Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea), known as BARBER, continues its return journey across Africa after crossing eastern Libya on September 12, 2026, on its way from its breeding grounds in Asia.

After passing through the Central African Republic, BARBER continued moving southwest, crossing into the Republic of the Congo. It then reached the Congolese coast before continuing south along the coastline and crossing into Angola.

The latest tracking data place BARBER approximately 140 km south of Luanda, the capital of Angola, after covering more than 2,000 km since Monday
