    Closing of the 9th Meeting of the Parties to AEWA with Libyan Participation.

    Libya, represented by the Ministry of Environment and the Libyan Society for Birds, participated in the 9th Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) of the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA), held in Bonn, Germany, from 9 to 14 November 2025, with the participation of more than 160 delegates from 64 countries.

    The meeting witnessed the adoption of eleven new international resolutions aimed at enhancing the protection of waterbirds and their migratory routes. Key outcomes included:

    • Updating the Annexes of the Agreement and adding categories for extinct and threatened species.
    • Strengthening the implementation of the Strategic Plan (2019–2027) and the Africa Action Plan, with an extension to 2028.
    • Developing management plans for priority species and adopting updated plans for several goose species.
    • Introducing new measures for the protection of seabirds in response to environmental threats and rising sea levels.
    • Adopting updated guidelines for the management of key sites and promoting ecotourism in wetlands.
    • Supporting environmental awareness programs through international platforms, such as World Migratory Bird Day.

    Libya’s participation in this international event highlights its ongoing commitment to monitoring migratory birds, protecting their critical habitats, and strengthening international cooperation in biodiversity conservation.
