The Libyan Society for Birds (LSB) participated in the first workshop entitled “Blue Economy in Libya: Challenges and Constraints – Integrating Biodiversity and Fisheries into the National Action Plan (NAP),” held on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, at Pearl of Derna Hotel in Derna.
LSB was represented by Prof. Khaled Al-Tayeb and Mr. Essam Abouras. The participation reflects the Society’s commitment to supporting biodiversity conservation and promoting the integration of environmental considerations into national policies and strategies related to the blue economy and sustainable development.
The workshop brought together participants from the University of Tripoli, the University of Benghazi, the University of Derna, and the University of Tobruk, alongside representatives from government institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners, including SPA/RAC and UNDP, to discuss opportunities and challenges related to the implementation of the blue economy concept in Libya.
The event provided a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the development of practical approaches to strengthen the integration of biodiversity conservation and fisheries management within national planning processes.
LSB emphasizes the importance of active engagement by scientific institutions and civil society organizations in supporting biodiversity conservation and the sustainable management of Libya’s natural resources.
